1. How do I Run Uzzap on my phone?

  • To start the Uzzap application you must find it in your phone. Typically it can be found in “Applications”, however on some phones java applications are all stored in “Games”. Simply press the “U” button to start the application.

You may wish to select “Auto Start” from the Settings Button (see above) which will allow Uzzap to start automatically when the phone starts (only available on Symbian phones). You may also wish to set up a soft key on your phones front screen to give you easy access to Uzzap. For Nokia phones use the personalization options under settings to set Uzzap as a shortcut or an active standby application.

2. How do I set up my other messenger account/s?

Go to the IM (“Instant Messaging”) button on the Main Menu. Connect to your messenger account of choice and enter your current ID and Password, then select Login.

Once you’ve established a connection you will automatically be logged in to this IM network each time you enter the Messenger program.

3. What’s the difference between Instant Messaging and Extended Messaging?

We refer to messages with other Uzzap users as “EM” or “Extended Messaging” because of current and future enhanced features like e-SMS, e-Mail, GSM calls, etc. Messages sent to buddies on other IM networks are still called Instant Messaging.

4. How do I invite my friends?

In the Main Menu, select the “Invite Friends” or “Add or Invite Buddies” option. These options allow you to select contacts from your phone address book and send them an SMS invitation to download Uzzap client and join our community.

Note: This feature may not be available on some phones.

You can also send invitations by IM to buddies on your other messenger accounts. Just highlight their buddy name and select the option “Invite”.

5. What is Automatic Buddy Matching?

When you first register and log in, “Automatic Buddy Matching” will get started. This feature reads your phone address book and uploads the contacts to a server. The server then looks for matches with existing Uzzap users and shows you a list of possible new buddies. You then select from the list to add these matches to your buddy list. These people will just need to confirm that they are your friends and they get added as your Uzzap buddies. If the system can see that you and your both buddy know each other (you both know each other’s number) no approval process is required.
You can run the Buddy Matching anytime by selecting it from the Main menu.

6. How do I add more Uzzap Buddies?

If you know of an Uzzap user who is not yet your buddy, you can add her directly by going to “Add or Invite Buddy” button on the Main Menu. This will send an add request to your friend. However she will need to approve your request.

Check the section in the Buddy List called “Pending Buddies” to see which friends have not yet approved your buddy request.

7. How do I switch from UZZAP to my regular phone applications?

Sometimes you might want to switch take a call or check your text messages normally. On some phone models, you can switch from Messenger to regular phone functions without exiting by selecting the “Hide” command. This runs the Messenger in the background. If a new message comes in, Messenger will “wake up” from the background and display the message.

Another approach is to press and hold the menu button on a Symbian phone. This will show you a list of applications running in the phone – you can choose and switch to where you want to go.

Note: This feature may not be available on some phones.

8. I can’t find the program after I installed it! Where is it?

  • Different handsets place newly installed programs in different places. New Nokia phones usually insert these programs in the “My Own” or “Applications” folder by default. Just search for the program icon with the Uzzap logo, and that’s it.

One way to make the Uzzap icon easy to find on Nokia phones is to include as one of the Active Standby apps. This means you can find it right on the default screen.

On Nokia Series 60 phones, this is set by going into Settings / General / Personalization / Standby mode / Active Standby apps. Or Shortcuts

QUICK TIP! :Click the Uzzap icon and Log In.

You can also speed things along by setting the program to automatically log in your ID and password when you run the program.

You can also tell Uzzap to start whenever your phone starts by choosing Settings from the Uzzap main menu and then choosing Auto Start.

9. How to use The Buddy List?

  • The EM Buddy List is the starting point of Uzzap. This is usually divided into:

All Buddies – buddies that are currently available Most Frequent - the buddies you communicate with most often

Other Contacts – Contacts that are not registered in Uzzap. These contacts can be mobile numbers, landline numbers or even just email addresses and can include overseas contacts. Where these contacts are in the Smart network you can communicate with them using E-SMS.

Pending Buddies - to see which friends have not yet approved your buddy request or who have been identified by Auto Buddy Matching as people you may know and wish to invite.

10. How do I add Uzzap Buddies?

Okay, you’re inside the program and staring at the buddy list. You can beef it up by adding buddies manually through their user ID (assuming you know what it is). From the buddy list, select “Options” and choose “Add/Invite Buddy”, then click on “Add Buddy by User ID”. Your friend will need to approve your add request. The easiest way is to activate Auto Buddy Matching and let the system add your buddies for you.

11. What are “Other Contacts”?

  • There is another kind of buddy called an “Other Contacts”. You might have friends on low end phones who can’t run the Uzzap program. But as long as they can send/receive SMS, Email or GSM calls they can still be your Uzzap Buddy. You can send special ESMS from Uzzap to your Other Contacts using a Smart mobile when they reply, you will see their messages in Messenger.

Other contacts can be landline users, email users and even international contacts. This allows you to use the convenience of Uzzap to communicate with everyone you know! Most Frequent - the buddies you communicate with most often

Other Contacts – Contacts that are not registered in Uzzap. These contacts can be mobile numbers, landline numbers or even just email addresses and can include overseas contacts. Where these contacts are in the Smart network you can communicate with them using E-SMS.

To add Other Contacts, select “Options” while in the Uzzap Buddy List and select “Add/Invite Buddy”, then “Add Other Contact”. You can either do it “Manually” or “Add from Phonebook”. If its “Add Manually”, you have to enter the Nickname, Mobile Number and Email Address. They will now be listed in your buddy list.

12. What about IM Buddies?

If you selected an automatic login to your other messenger accounts (IM), your buddies on these IM networks should show up in the Buddy list. However, you can’t add new IM buddies from Uzzap. You need to add buddies to by logging in directly to your IM account to do that.

This is limited only to Uzzap buddies – currently you can’t include Other Contacts or IM buddies to conferences.

15. What does View History do?

This shows a list of your chats – even those that took place days ago. All your chats are recorded until you decide to delete them. To delete your chat history, go back to the main EM Buddy List, select Options and select “Clear Message history”.

16. How do I create a Buddy Group?

It’s currently hidden deep in the menus, but you can create new groups of buddies, like “Officemates”, “Barkada”, “Family” and so forth. Here’s how:

a. Select a Buddy, and click on “Other Groups”
b. you can choose from your existing “Group/s” or you can create a “New Group”
c. To create a “New Group”, enter name of a new group and click on “Ok”

There is also a special group already set up for you called “My Friends”. You can put your close friends here so you can find them easily when your buddy list gets long. There is a quick way to put buddies into this group using the tick box on the communication menu. Be patient when you tick or un-tick this option since the system has to tell the server about the change before it will display on your buddy list.
You can rename any of the groups in the system including the delivered groups such as “My Friends” – you may wish to call it “Pamilya” and use it just for your family.

18. How do I connect to my Smart Buddy friends who are non-Uzzap users?

Add them in your Other Contacts list and send them E-SMS.

1. How do I download and install UZZAP?

a. Is my phone set up for GPRS or 3G? The first step is to make sure you can access GPRS or 3G. If you’re not set up for this, perform the following procedure.

Send the command SET GPRS or SET 3G or SET to 211.

For example, if you have a Nokia N77, the command is SET 3G N77 and send to 211.

After sending the appropriate commands, you will receive a series of text messages. Follow all the instructions received to install the OTA settings. Just to be on the safe side, we recommend you restart your phone after installing the settings.

After the settings are installed, your phone should have SMART’s three APN settings: Smart GPRS, Smart MMS, and Smart Internet.

Uzzap will work on either Smart GPRS or Smart Internet APN. It will also run using GSM/GPRS, UMTS or 3G (and in future UMTS/HSDPA also).

b. Send a text message with the keyword UZZAP TO 7272 After sending this, you will receive an SMS with the link http://uzzap.com/download
Click on the link to connect to the download server. The server will detect your handset type and allow you to download the correct version of the program to your phone.

All steps to download the program, including the SMS message and the download itself are FREE.

It is recommended to use a 3G connection and Smart Internet APN to download so as to minimize the download time.

c. Download the application and install it.
After installing the application, the program will take you straight to the next step that allows you to register an Uzzap account.

2. Registering your new account

After installing the program, the program will display an initial menu. You’ll need to register an account before you can log in.

Select option #2, “Register a new account”.

The system will first check the internet connection and if the connection is successful, then automatically scans for your mobile number.

If your mobile number is already registered the following screen will appear:

If mobile number yet to be registered, registration page will appear. Mobile number will then appear automatically. The User will be opting to enter their remaining registration details. When choosing your username please consider that this is permanent and may not be changed:

On Nokia Series 60 phones you will also be asked for the default access point (APN), just set it to “Automatic”
* if you’re having problem connecting to GPRS, go back to Login to Network, select Manual or Network Access Point and set it to “Smart Internet” then click Login

When all done entering your details, click on “Register” and let the system process your registration. You will then be shown a screen having your User ID, Password and Mobile number. Click on “Login” and you’ll be directed to Main Menu. Or click “Cancel” to login manually (See 3 Logging in).

1. What computers run the PC Version?

Currently the most stable PC version is available for computers running Windows XP or Vista operating systems. If you’re a Mac OSX user, you’ll need to run Windows on your Mac to use the program.

There is also a Linux version, although this is still being tested. A future version for native Mac OSX is in the roadmap.

From the Windows Start button, select “Programs” and you should see the “Uzzap” folder. This will contain two program icons – one called ‘Uzzap’ for the Messenger and one called ‘Uninstall’ which will remove the program. You may want to copy the Uzzap icon to your Windows desktop to make it easier to find.

3. How do I run it?

Make sure you have an active Internet connection. Just click on the Uzzap icon. It will connect to the Uzzap server, and away you go.

4. Where can I use this program?

You can use it anywhere you have a full and open Internet connection, like your home Internet connection, or in public wi-fi hotspots and cybercafes.

5. Is there a difference between using the mobile version and the PC version?

It is basically the same program, with a few changes:

a. Since there is no phone address book your PC can read, functions that require access to your phonebook will not work – for example you cannot add a buddy from the phonebook. Auto Buddy Matching cannot be initiated when you are using the PC client – but remains active if you have previously set it from your mobile phone.

b. Assured Message Delivery still works where the other party is using a mobile phone to ensure they receive your message

c. E-SMS is available where the other party is in the Smart network.

d. The subscription screens are still available on the PC client so you can check your history and billing status.
